| The
major reasons why India continues to lose thousands of
crores by way of spoilage of foodstuff are :
1) Erratic power supply,
2) High rate of customs duty, excise duty and sales
tax on refrigeration equipments,
3) Lack of refrigeration engineers,
4) Lack of finance,
5) Lack of information on exactly how much and what
amount of foodstuff is wasted in what part of the
country. Dissemination of such information would lead to
the setting up of cold storages and food processing
plants.
6) Lack of proper and smooth roads (rough roads result
in heavy vibration of the equipments leading to breakdowns.
